I owe 12,000 restitution from about 7 years ago, but I just can't afford it. My question is do you think if I go in and tell the judge that I just can't afford it I can do jail time in lieu of this?

No. Restitution is to pay back your victim... He doesn't get squat if you're in jail.

My restution went from 3500 to 12000 in 4yrs because I couldn't pay. I went back to court to try and get it lowered and the judge said he can't lower the interest or court fees and u know what they did?? Charged me another 320$ to go to court and be denied. By the judge.. Im so sick and tired of the system trying to put it in my ***.. I did the time... I willing to pay off what I owe for restitution but not pay for the judge and clerks bows payments!! I don't know what to do... Risk going to court again to try and get it lowered and have to pay another 300 or say f it and do the time...
