It's a movie similar to "Night of the Comet"... post apocalypse type of thing where there's just a handful of survivors... and if I remember correctly the event that causes it was a solar flare (which during the movie is realized to be a cyclic event that's beginning as the sun's become unbalanced somehow). The only survivors are people who had just died at the moment of the event. Some had been committing suicide and others died coincidentally at the moment. The flare had the effect of whisking away people and they were just gone, unless the aforementioned timing of death at exactly the right moment. I forgot the main part of the movie but the very end has a vivid scene where a guy does something at the moment of the next repeat flare and he is somehow transported to a world like Saturn where's there's many moons on the horizon and a beach... then the camera fades away.
Anybody know what that movie is?
