Hello all, I am hoping to find some help here. I have just found out that I have a felony shoplifting charge in AZ on my record. I live in VA but I do have family including a brother in AZ who is constantly in trouble with the law in and out of prison. He did get in the newspaper for shoplifting a Wal-Mart in AZ. I am positive that this is tied to him somehow. I have proof that I was in VA before, during and after the shoplifting occurred. I am also sure they would have fingerprinted him after arresting him for it which should also further prove to absolve me of this. What do I do to get this off my record?

On a side note I have been looking for a job for months now and I guess this must be why I haven't gotten a single call back. I have never comittied a crime like this in my life.

Find out where the charge was filed, contact the Court with your proof that it was not you (including the fingerprint issue) and ask how to get it removed.

You may need to retain an Attorney.

I was hoping this would not have to include getting an attorney. Still unemployed and broke as a joke. Thanks for your quick response I will get in touch with the court ASAP when I find it.

The Court may have a fast and easy solution - make the call and then come back, let "us" know what the Court said and maybe "we" can come up with a fast, cheap way to correct this.

Contact the court where this charge was done.

It is not uncommon for family members to use the name of other members, he may even have a drivers license or other ID using your name. He may have used your name when arrested, but his name will show up under those finger prints,
** which is what a finger print search will show up.

I had a family member that this exact thing happened to this year, it took close to 1000 dollars and 4 months to clear it up
