I am breastfeeding my 8 months old daughter and have not started my period yet. Although I have had some spotting a few months back, but it was very light and only lasted a few days. In the past month I have been experiencing lower abdomonal pain and cramping like I would get with a period but so far nothing... what could this be, could it be something I need to be seen for??

It's normal for periods to take a lot longer to come back when you are breastfeeding, particularly if you have a very sucky baby who feeds frequently.

Normally you need a regular gap of at least four hours between feeds for fertility to return. That usually happens when you go back to work and leave EBM for the baby, or when the baby starts sleeping through the night.

It sounds as if your periods may return soon.

A good diet can help speed things up. If you are not eating properly, your body knows you are not ready to get pregnant again, and will delay the return of fertility.
