The movie centers around the Army, during WWII, taking residence in or around a haunted castle where they eventually meet and are assited by a humorous gohst that lives in the castle. This movie goes back to my childhood and I would say was about 1960s?

I believe the movie is the "Canterville Ghost". It was run twice. The original starred Robert Young as the U.S. Army man, who turned out to be related to the Ghost's family.

The ghost was doomed to remain wondering the halls of the home until he demonstrated some form of courage. Until that time he was separated from his one true love.
