The laptop is an old 1998 Micron Trek2 Model NBK U370 with a Phoenix bios dated 6/11/98.
My brother recently gave it to me and it seemed to work fine. But the noisy fan bothered me and so I replaced it. I know the new fan works, but the system locks up after 10 to 20 minutes. When this happens the mouse no longer works and the keyboard does nothing. I have to hold the power button down to shut it down. If I try to reboot immediately nothing loads and the LCD remains black. Once the laptop has cooled off, like the next morning it will boot up again and load Win98se like nothing was wrong.
My only guess is that something is overheating but I do not know what to look for. I could use some suggestions.
Thanks, Ken.

Where was this noisy fan located? If it was a processor fan, did you use thermal paste on the mating surface?
