My older dog who's about sixteen will not eat. We have been going through this for years, it's a fight to get him to eat his food, all he wants is our food. We don't give him any scraps really. But recently its got so bad that we just gave up on the dog food cause he's just bones. We just gave him chiken and rice, but after about two weeks he started it again he would just beg for our food. So we just been giving him lunch meat cause he's just getting worse. He's my best friend and I need help we just had to put down our female dog and I hope we don't have to do it again.

Please take him to the vet! You love him and should consult your vet. They can make sure he is okay, and then also help you with his eating and diet problems. Until then, you could try breaking up small pieces of boneless cooked chicken breast, and layering a few pieces in his regular dog food. You could call the vet to make sure that's okay until you bring him to the vet. I hope the vet is able to help him and he starts eating again. Maybe they can suggest new food, I hope he get's better. Good luck!

Loss of appetite is fairly common in the geriatric dog, but also warrants a trip to the veterinarian for a check up.

It's important that an old dog get good nutrition, and lunch meat just won't provide it.
