My jacuzzi tub must have a leak in it as it has caved in the ceiling in my basement. Now there is this horrible smell coming from my bathroom. I am thinking it is probably rotten drywall, but not sure since tile surronds the tub. Where do I start? I'm sure the seals were broken in the tub, then again, I'm a nurse, not a plummer. I want to try to fix this myself. Any idea's? Thanks!

Have you fully opened the ceiling in the basement and given it a good inspection from the underside? Did you see any mold? After that you can inspect it with it filled and in used without someone in it and see where the leaks are if you can.

Hello Susan1b...
What smells is most likely the wetness inside your ceiling a.I. drywall, plaster, insulation, wet lumber. Do not cover ceiling until plumbing is repaired and all wetness is completely dry. Also remove and toss ceiling insulation. Buy new one.
Leak can be from several sources: drain, jets, jac-tub-plumbing, h/c water, spout... Turn water ON, go to the basement and look at the tub through that hole in the ceiling. Find out where is the leak coming from...
Now, can you snap few pictures and post it for us ? Thanks... back to you... Milo
