What are saturated solutions?

You can only dissolve so much of most things in a given liquid. If you took a cup of cold water and started stirring in salt, once you added about 3 ounces of salt, it would quit dissolving. Stir and stir and stir, and you would still have the same amount of undissolved salt in the bottom. When a solution has as much of something as it can dissolve, it is called a saturated solution.

A solution that contains as much of a dissolved substance that it can. Any more added will not dissolve unless you change the temperature.
