I bought a ranch home that had an addition built on the back of it. And I am having a hard time keeping the whole house at the same tempture. My up stairs is cool from the windows being open but the basement is hot and its 70 degrees outside. How do I get the basement cooler in the summer time and warmer in the winter time?

You have mentioned nothing about an HVAC unit. Do you have one or are you relying only on air flow?

I do have air conditioning. It does cools off down there, matter of fact it gets to cold down there, and cool up stairs. But in the fall and winter its warmer down there than the up stairs. I do need new windows but that doesn't help the down stairs.

It's hard to pinpoint anything special. Is the HW heater in the basement? Dryer? Those are heat sources. You should have someone do a test and balance to measure air flow. How many windows in the basement? Basements typically are much more humid then other levels. The addittional space added may have taxed the HVAC system. Was that upgraded or just extended?
