My brother in law is in jail and the baby is in her 16 year old mothers custody. They live with her parents in a filthy house with 5 inside dogs that are not house trained. My niece is allergic to dogs. My nieces mom is strung out on pills and drinks. There are all kinds of people who constantly go over there. They smoke ciggaretes with the baby inside. No one in this household has a job. There are a few other things I won't go into detail about. My husband and I already bye all of her milk clothes and diapers. Her mother drops her off at my house for days at a time. My husband is 23 years old and has a full time job. I'm 19 and attending college. We have no children. How would we go about getting custody of her or can we.

You should contact tyour local division of child protective services for assistance regarding the horrendous conditions you describe where the baby resides. They will begin an investigation to determine what action to take.

Upon completing their investigation it will be referred to the court and a judge will decide if the child be put in protective services or with a relative.

This situation as it will occur is up to you and if you feel strongly enough about wanting the child in a proper environment, I urge you to take the necessary steps and contact child services.

Agreed, You need your local family services agency to do an investigation. When you contact them, stick ONLY to facts that you feel can be proven. Let them know that you are willing to foster the child, maybe even with an eye towards adoption.
