The tag lets you easily embed nicely formatted math in your questions and answers. The particular convention Ask Me Help Desk uses is mimeTex, a version of LaTeX. Please read the tutorial (http://www.forkosh.com/mimetextutorial.html) if you would like to use it extensively.

Example usage:

[math]x{\small_1}=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}[/máth]

Example output:

[math]x{\small_1}=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

Wikipedia uses a slightly different version of tex, but i find their help page on displaying formulae well laid out and very useful when I'm searching for how to display a symbol i haven't used before.

The only real difference I have found is that they use <math></math> instead of [math][/máth].

The page can be found here: Help - Displaying a formula - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Displaying_a_formula)
