I have a dug well 40ft deep with about 22ft of water in it. I changed from an above ground to a submersible pump (Goulds 15 yr guarenty) a couple years ago. Also replace a failed bladder type tank. I have adequate water pressure for normal household activities except the washing machine. If I turn the outdoor hose on it runs fine for about 10-15 minutes. The pump will cycle while doing this. Then the water stops completely. Wait a few minutes and it starts again and then it stops again. If I shut the hose off it takes the pump 4 or 5 cycles to get back up to 60psi. I have a 40-60 pressure switch. When stopping in between cycles the points on the switch stay closed.until it finally get up to 60psi. The switch is new too. The tank has 38psi. What gives? I took the cap off the well and the pump is somewhere under water the whole time... Thanks for any ideas... Paul P

You have a 40 deep, dug well with 22 feet of water? Are you sure about that? That an extremely deep for a dug well. Why You you dig 40 if you have water at 22 feet?

If the points of the switch are closed the pump has to be running unless you have a defective pump or an electrical short.

If the pump is beneath the water level the only reason for it to stop running would overheating and that would only occur if it is in soil or sediment in the bottom of the well. How is your water quality?

You said you have sufficient water for everything except the washer, yet you can run the hose for 10-15 minutes. Those two things appear to be inconsistent with each other. What size tank do you have. What volume of water are you getting out of the hose after the pump starts running?
