I currently don't have any withholding or anything to write off, it's just me as a deduction.

How can we answer this if we don't know what state, county and what city you live in? Some localities have a wage tax others don't. Some states have no income tax.

QUOTE,"how much ny state tax and federal will i have to pay for 16500.00 on unemployment?"-- Unemployemnt benefits are taxed like regular income in some states and are also subject to Federal income taxes and must be reported on your Federal income tax return. You may elect to have the tax withheld by the State Unemployment Insurance agency. You need to contact a taxprofessional in your place.

In 2009 first $2,400 of Unemployment Benefits are Tax Free. Every person who receives unemployment benefits during 2009 is eligible to exclude the first $2,400 of these benefits on their 2009 tax return.
Do not have updates for 2010.
