View Full Version : Central Air Running But Not Cooling

I have had my Thermostat set at roughly 77 degrees. However, my house (1200 sq ft) will not cool down. It seems to stay in the 80's. The vents are blowing air fully, but it's not cold air (not warm either).

I cannot find anything frosted over. The filter is new as of a week ago and the old one wasn't even clogged.

Everything sounds normal. No pipes feel hot to the touch.

This all started 2 days ago. I live alone and do not know much about air conditioning. Any (detailed.. I am very inexperienced) advice would help. I have taught myself to fix many things around the house. I would like to be able to fix this on my own.

Having just the fan on feels the same currently as when I am running my ac. Just to give an idea of how warm it feels compared to normal.

Thank you in advanced again.

Check to see if the condensing unit, located outside, is running. Then we can start to find the problem. One of the pipes going into the coil box should be hot and 1 cold.

Thank you so much for answering my post!

The unit is on outside and running. It seems to be doing so just fine, or so I believe.

Both pipes feel cold. There is no frost or condensation on the pipes either.

The pressure side from the compressor should be hot. This is the side that carries liquified refrigerant to the evaporator. If it's not hot, you may have low freon or a bad evaporator valve.
