Hi
I have a 6 years old daughter. The upper new perminant are starting to go out, I want to go to the dentist, but I'm newcomer in Canada and I don't know how much it costs for a regular dentist checkup and if the dentist decides that a tooth extraction is needed to leave a space, what is the average fee for that?

Thanks

Lamia

When I get my teeth checked here in Manitoba it is about $60, plus whatever else I need done. I havve gotten one tooth pulled which costed about $50. I am 16 and don't know if it will make a big difference in age, but I hoped I helped.. you can always call the dentist office and ask.

Hi Lamia,

Welcome to Canada!

It is normal for 6 year olds to be getting their adult top front teeth. At this point a dentist won't consider extracting any teeth because your daughter has a lot of growing to do yet and her jaw will grow as well. Now, if her baby teeth are still present and not loose and the adult ones are coming in then a dentist may want to help by removing the baby teeth so the adult ones come in in the right spot.

You can call dental offices to get a cost on a new client exam. Tell them your daughters age as there is generally a difference in cost between children her age and adults. Also ask if they take x-rays at this visit and what the cost of those will be. Generally at a first appointment there is no treatment (extractions, fillings, etc) done as the first visit is for information gathering and treatment planning. If your daughter was in pain, then yes, they would probably address that only.

Every province in Canada has their own dental fee guide. If you are in a city where there are Independent Dental Hygiene offices the hygienist there can do an assessment and it will cost you significantly less than going in to a dentist's office.

If you let me know where you are located, I can direct you to one of these Dental Hygiene offices.
