My son is 3 yrs old almost 4 & I can't get him to talk I spend a good 30 min to an hour a day w/o anything going on (activity). I have a 8 mo old daughter seem to want to try to talk. My son is very smart inather ways of communicating but he just won't try to talk. I need suggestion on what I can do get him to talk

Has he had a clean bill of health from the doctor?

Hearing checked? Mouth and tongue? How has his development been to date?

Redhead has good questions - your son may not be able to hear or may not hear well. Try to pay attention to whether he follows instructions you give him when he cannot see you, such as if you are behind him or in another room. Even if he seems responsive though, take him for a full physical and comprehsive hearing test.

I've known of two children who had such chronic undiagnosed ear infections they had ruptured ear drums. Once they were treated and got ear tubes inserted, both started hearing and also speaking.

It's definitely time to take this seriously and have a full workup done, like Red suggested.

Hearing, speech test, full physical.

He may need speech therapy, it could be that he's having hearing problems, it could be that he's tongue tied. It could be any number of things, but those are the places to start.

When you say he doesn't speak, do you mean not at all, or is he just not up to what he should be at age 3?
