I just installed a mixing valve in the shower and when I turn it, nothing happens. The stem turns and no water comes out. I bought this about 4 years ago and just got around to installing it. It a meridian- model 7150 transitional. There are two screws on either side of the valve. I tried to turn them in and back them, but nothing happen.
I didn't know how or if the cartridge could be taken out or changed.
Any suggestions?

Hi Jim...

Screw the shutoff screws out toward you... that's full open.

Then, check the shower head... remove and check for flow.

If that fails to restore water you need to check the shutoff screws by shutting the main water supply off and then removing each shutoff screw. Remove each and clean the obvious stuff... pulse water to clear the lines. Rare, however, that both shutoffs would be bad... right? Though you never do know with a 4 Y.O valve.

Otherwise, shut off the shutoff screws and pull the cartridge... check for water flow from the hot and cold shutoff screws... should let you know what is up.

Could even be at the diverter I think I see in the picture... may need to remove and clean that... maybe?

Check all... let us know what you find.

Try taking the cartridge out and rotating it. You could also pull the cartridge and "flush" the system briefly. Open the shutoff valves very briefly.

The screws on both sides essentially regulate the flow of hot and cold. It effectively moves the "nice" setting of the dial and would be dependent on water temperature.

The screws are shutoffs... need to open fully by screwing counterclockwise?

Ya know I have a similar comercial valve from leanord valve and I did have to "adjust" these to move the "sweet spot" on the control.

Just as water temp moves the "sweet spot", so does the amount of hot and cold water entering the valve. The normal position is about 75 deg from horizontal for a comfy shower.

If I would do the job again, I would have dispensed with the diverter and bought he one with two on/off/volume valves. One for the tub and one for the shower.

Thanks for the replies. I took the shutoff screws out and turn the water on to out to flush things out. I put the screws back in and backed them all the way out. I didn't take the shower head off.
I figured the water should be coming tub spout until the diverter is pushed in.
I really don't know how to remove the cartridge.
Any suggestions about that?

Did water come out the shutoffs? I'm figuring yes, but want to be sure.

Before continuing, set the trim plate and handle in place and then try to turn the unit on. Some units like this won't turn on until the stem and the raised knobs under the handle are engaged. Try installing the trim... ;)

Otherwise, to remove the cartridge you should take some duct tape and wrap the chrome ring at the valve and then try to loosen the ring by hand... make sure the water flow is shut when removing.

If that fails the you may need to engage the two indents in the valve at the front and try unscrewing things that way.

Let us know what you find...

Yes the water did come out of the shutoff holes. I had trim plate and handle on when I realized there was no water flow. I didn't know it I had to use a spanner wrench on the brass piece to get the cartridgae out.

Is that a shower valve or a tub and shower valve.

It's a shower and tub. The water comes put the tub spout, but when the
Top diverter is pressed in, it should come out the shower. The diverter is
On a spring and pops back out when the water is turned off.

Is the picture upside down? Shouldn't that diverter valve be on the tub spout pipe?

I wanted to thank everyone for their replies. Member Kiss had it right , when he said to take the cartridge out and rotate it. That worked, it must have been assembled wrong at the factory. Here is a picture of it all together. The last picture was not upside down, the diverter is above the handle.
