I'm trying to fix my leaky delta 1700 monitor bath tub single-handle faucet. Currently, I'm stuck at trying to figure out how to take the handle off so I can evaluate, and perhaps bring the cartridge to my local Lowe's for recommendations... But I got to take it off first... Help?

Hi Mike...

Here's a pic... see below.

The top of the handle pries off... pops off to expose the screw. Look for a small indent or recess to fit a tiny flat tip of a tool and insert flat tool and twist to pry/pop off cover. There is also a TEMPERATURE LIMIT STOP... remember how that lines up so you can install it properly after your repair...

A bigger pic. Is available at:

Let's get you unstuck. The lever type handle has a Allen Set Screw in te front base wile you pop the insert off the top of the knob and there's a screw underneath,(see image) Good luck, tom

Great, so we're moving along. So, I have the handle area disassembled down to the cartridge, but I can't get it out. It is inserted into a metal tube ,and near the front, there is a flat metal ring (unplated bonnet?) holding the cartridge in. I have tried and tried to get it to unscrew, but I just keep stripping copper off the ring with my channel locks. It's not budging at all. Suggestions?

The pic he posted was close enough for me to understand more of what I was looking at though. The differences weren't big enough. And yes, this is driving me crazy. Wife has been on my butt for years to fix this leak... lol

Put some duct tape on the unplated bonnet and then try to unscrew using your hands only. Sometimes squeezing with pliers creates the problem you are having.

Oh crap. OK. I'll give it a shot.

Ok, so it looks like I may have made this way worse with my pliers. Duct tape, and the old "heave ho" is a no go at this point. Have I screwed the pooch?

Ok, got it. I unscrewed the unplated bonnet by grabbing it along the front edge with my pliers. That did it. Next time hands only though!! The problem was a broken seat and spring. $5 at Lowe's. Thanks for all your help guys. Very grateful for your expertise.
