How many inches should the drain tile be from the bottom of the sump pit? Is there a standard? I have a somewhat smaller sump pit. I recently installed a Zoeller 1/2 hp pump, but the switch doesn't trigger until the water level is covering the drain tile (and most likely filling the trench that was placed under my basement floor by a waterproofing company. The pump they installed (a Blue Angel) was going off all the time. When replacing it I realized that the switch for the Blue Angel was triggered at a very shallow depth. Both the old pump and the new Zoeller sit even or above the drain tile. Should the tile been placed higher in the pit? As it is now, the bottom of the 4" diameter tile is about 5-6 " from the bottom of the pit. The top of the tile is about 16" from the top of the pit. I don't see a way to adjust the level of the float on the Zoeller. But that's beside the point. My guess is the drain tile comes in too low. Is my only solution to enlarge and deepen the pit at this point? Thanks.
