I would like to change my son's name from his father's to mine. I know that his father will not consent to a name change. What can I do?

You can try to get a court order to change it but if the father has been involved with the child, it's unlikely to be permitted. Sounds costly and like something that won't benefit the child in any way, so I probably wouldn't do it.
I'm divorced - my son has his father's name, I went back to my maiden name. It's never been an issue. My ex is remarried and his wife goes by her maiden name - her children by their father's name - so in their home they have three last names. They don't seem bothered by it at all.

Please pay more attention to posting guidelines. There is a Read First sticky in the Children forum (where this was moved from) that directs questions of a legal nature to this forum.
There is not much you can do. A court is not likely to grant a change if the legal father objects.
