I will be baby sitting two kids both younger... and I was just wondering how much do baby sitters usually get paid (in canada) like 20 $ an hour? I'm not sure and I don't want to get ripped off or say some random number or something because I have no idea

It varies a great deal depending on where you live, and if its an adult or teenager doing it and how many kids are being watched.

But $20 an hour? That's Damn good pay for one kid.

I know college grads that are barely making that.

I'm in Canada and I have two kids.

Minimum wage is a little over $9/hour, and that's what my sitters get paid, minimum wage.

One kid, two kids, 5 kids, doesn't matter. If you worked in a daycare you'd need your level I child care college course, first aid, and you'd be looking after anywhere from 3-10 kids depending on their age and you'd get minimum wage.

If you actually want to work as a sitter, don't ask for $20/hour, or you'll never get hired.

Minimum wage is fair. Most people won't even pay that though. It's up to you if you're willing to accept less, but asking for more, that's not realistic.

I think $9 an hour is fair, and is good pay for most people (usually teenage kids) who babysit. If this will be an ongoing thing, I'd ask the parents what they had in mind and take it if it sounds like it would be worth your time, and good experience. In first jobs, money is not the only consideration - do the hours work with your other responsibilities? Will you enjoy it? ARe the parents good people to work for? What do you think of the kids? I babysat for $1 an hour in the 1980s and was glad to get it!

Looked a little bit around online, and everybody seems to be in the ballpark, except $20.00, that's a bit much. Also considering that there is no tax being paid or declared if we really want to split hairs here! Usually food is provided, and nothing is out of pocket, i.e. transportation etc. so the sitter has no expenses.

One lady I read posted she pays $5.00 an hour, and $1.00 an hour for each additional kid. She has four kids, so $8.00 an hour to cover them all.

I'd say that's decent money for an inexperienced young person.

While I have not hired one for a year or so, and I am in the US, we get teens from about 5 to 8 dollars for one child.
