I just bought a home that is equipped with a Hampton Bay ceiling hugger. From reading your site, I understand that this is one of your least favorite brands. Sorry about another HB support question, but here goes. I don't know if it is remote controlled or not as I do not have a remote. When I turn the light on at the wall switch, the comes on as if on a dimmer. Low light then progresses to bright. I have not been able to get the fan to come on at all. It has pull chains and I have attempted evry combination of switch and chain to no avail. I thought that it may be on a three way wall switch set up and have tried all of those combinations as well. What should be my first step in resolving this situation? Thank you in advance for your time and effort on my behalf. Steve Miller

An Electrician may lower the canopy at the ceiling and check for power to the fan wire(usually black), and also see if a receiver is installed.
That Switch sounds like a Special Light Dimmer?

Thank you for the reply. The wall switch appears to be a normal swithc. No sliders, puch buttons, etc. Just a plain old fachioned on off switch. I have installed ceiling fans before. I will drop it down and first see if it has a remote receiver installed. If so I'll just have to to buy a new remote/receiver and re-install. I read somewhere that there is a method to by pass the remote receiver and manually operate the fan with pull chains in an effort to determine whether the remote or fan is bad but the article did not mention how.

This STRONGLY suggests remote controlled.
When it has pull chains already it may be an aftermarket remote.
When a aftermarket remote is installed the lights are left in the brightest position and the fan is left on high speed.
Drop the fascia at the ceiling and look for a plastic box. This is bot the only location of a remote, but it's the most likely if aftermarket.
