My son has a 2001 Honda civic. When it is driven for awhile and you let it idle for awhile sometimes it will die and is then hard to re start. Till it sets for a shot peroid of time.
Then it won't run over 20mph unless you let it set for 30 min to 2 hr. the engin light will be on and won't go off. There will be no code in the computer. After all this then it will run fine till the next time.

Replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor, which affects fuel injector pulse width. The ECT Sensor is a temperature dependent resistor (thermistor), whose resistance decreases as the engine coolant temperature increases. It provides a richer mixture when cold, leaner mixture when hot. They become corroded, due to not changing the coolant frequently enough, flood the engine, and waste a tremendous amount of fuel. There are two wires going to this sensor, which is significant for identification purposes.

If the problem persists, focus on testing/replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor and Camshaft Position Sensor.
