If the relationship is consentual then it is fine. If the parents do not approve then they can press charges if the 18 yr old has done anything sexual with the 17 yrs old. Hope this helps=)

no. even if you are sexual and the parrents don't approve nothing can be done legally, depending on your state. In Maryland, there is a four years rule. If there is a four year difference and its consensual, than its legal

I guess non legal answers are OK in a non legal area.
But the 17's year old parents will have to allow it.
In some states if they have sex it can be considered rape, the age difference will determine the level of the charge.
But even without sex, the parents can file for interference with custody, done all the time here in Georgia

Depends on the state. Some yes, some no. Call the sheriffs office and ask.

This question has been asked and answered very often. No, he cannot go to jail just for dating you. There are NO laws that govern dating.
Any laws governing a relationship between an adult (at 18 he's an adult) and a minor (at 17 you are a minor) refer to having sexual activity. If you have sex with him, he MIGHT get in legal trouble depending on where you live. The age of consent in most areas is 16 so if you live in such an area, he would be safe that way.
The other issue is that, as a minor, you are still under the control of your parents. If they refuse to allow the relationship, he could get in trouble for defying them.
I've moved this to the law forum since it's a legal question
