I have started to investigate to see if my large foyer window in under warranty and if so, who honors it. The window has started to fog in between the panes and I can see faint marks starting to form.

I was told most windows have a 15 - 20 year warranty, which I would hope to be covered since the home was built in 1999. I am the second owner.

I have tried getting the records, but the builder most have went out of business since there are no internet references nor does the phone number on the permit work.

Where can I go from here being that I do not see evidence of the manufacturer on the window?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

On most windows there is a semi-clear imprint in one corner. It is an etching on the glass.

This will tell a window dealer(who is knowledged in this method of identification)what to look for about a manufacturer.

The type of frame(wood and vinyl, wood on wood, vinyl in and out, etc) will also assist them in this.

Calling a window dealer,a lumber yard who would come to you(may charge a fee) to look at the window and guide you in the right direction.

A window or even a roof warranty is only as good as the company behind it.Windows made by a company which folded have no warranty.Windows made by a reputable maker will carry the manufactures warranty,, maybe.

I am still having problems with a roof I installed where the manufacturer won't cover the warranty as specified,my customer is in a class action suit against the maker... that most likely means less than enough to cover the costs.

Good luck in your search.
