Hi, My Father just passed, He owned and ran a farm in Santa Rosa CA, In which I worked most of my teen years on into my late 20s. My mother died 15 years ago, and my father re-married 12 years ago.
The property has been in his ownership for 28 years, 16 years before he remarried.
My question is, Me being the only child of my father, and with my step mother still alive she is not willing to even speak to me and says I am not intittled to anything as I have not seen my father in 6 years.
Is this true? Am I intilttled to a portion of the estate?
What options do I have.
I would say the estate is worth in the area of 2 million dollars..
Thanks..
Liza

Hello A:

You don't have to be a NICE daughter in order to inherit. All you have to be is a daughter. I'd hire an attorney.

With an estate into the millions their will be a will, it has to be filed in probate court, check with the court and see if it has been filed yet.

Also at this point, if you have other brothers and sisters alive ( you said fathers other children) they all can get together and hire an attorney to represent their interests, ( or you may get your own)

With an estate into the millions their will be a will, ...
Who knows?
But if not, I think the children are entitled to their shares under the California intestacy statute
