My puppy had surgery 24 hours ago and they dound rupture in her intestine
She is doing well they say except over night she had a low protein count in her blood
That has since settled which is good and apparantely took her for a walk this morning
Howvever she will not eat yet? Is that OK? She is having water/ and is still at vet I cannot go see her as I know she will be devastated if I then leave again. Thanks so much

Don't worry unless she isn't drinking.
You may have to feed her some rice and chicken broth when she gets home.

I don't think they will release her until she is eating...
As they will be concerned perhaps about her protein level...
Thank you so much for your answer.
The last few days have been so very difficult

I understand. Probably release will happen after eating and a bowel movement. Pretty standard.
You might ask if you can bring some rice and chicken broth to feed her when you visit?

I did drop of some rice and chicken but I didn't want to over excite her by seeing her (although selfishly that is what I really wanted to do) I just know when she sees me she will be so excited and then I will have to leave again. She is only 2 and a half and a little thing who is very attached to her family. You are right though. Some Broth may be a very good idea. I think I will ask the vet this when I call again in a few hours. Thanks again. It is very nice of you to help me out.

Give it some time. A lot of times after a surgery like that, they aren't going to feel like eating a heck of a lot for a little while, and when they do the vet is probably going to make sure it's something very, very bland.

Sariss Thank you so so much. Have you heard of a ruptured intestine before? We still have no idea what caused it as they found no foreign body inside her. Perhaps she has already passed it? They also did a biopsy as she was already open so we shoud have those results in a few days. She is only 2 and a half so Im just wishing and praying she will make a speedy recovery. Thanks so much for your help. Im just missing her so much and I hate the thought of her in pain in anyway she is an angel. The vet seemed happy with her progress when we last spoke to them a couple of hours ago

I have heard of it rarely. I've heard of dogs somehow torsing their gut so nothing can pass, then rupture. I believe it's pretty much a freak thing.
She'll be back with you soon enough. :)
