I want to connect my laptop to my PC.
PC setting:
Ip 192.168.1.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0

Laptop setting
Ip 192.168.1.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0

I'm using cross over ethernet lan cable.
The problem is I cannot access my laptop and vice versa
The LAN already shows connected 100Mbps
When I ping my laptop from PC it shows "request time out".
I can't figure out what's the problem. Can anyone help me? Please.

Howdy and welcome to AMHD:

Do both systems belong to the same workgroup?

If running Windows XP on both systems, is the exception for "File and Print Sharing" enabled in the Firewall?

Are there any other security applications running, such as Norton Security?

Both of them run on winxp.
File and printer sharing is turned on. I've disabled all security including firewall and antivirus.

If your firewall is disabled on both machines and a PING doesn't work then the problem has nothing to do with File and Printing sharing or what group each machine belongs to. It has to be at a lower level. Start troubleshooting at the lowest level first and eliminate problems going up the OSI stack.

So are there other ethernet cards in each of the laptop/pc or is the 192.168.1.x network the only network? Can you post the output of "netstat -rn" for both machines? Lets start there and work our way up.
