Most of the following passages were taken from letters to the editor and newspaper call-in columns.

EACH OF THE FOLLOWING ARGUMENTS CONTAINS A FALLACY.

EXPLAIN AND DISCUSS HOW YOU KNOW THAT THE DESIGNATED FALLACY IS TAKING PLACE.
YOUR RESPONSE SHOULD BE AT MINIMUM 5 SENTENCES (for each explanation) AND SHOULD DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE FALLACY ALONG WITH HOW IT APPLIES TO THAT PARTICULAR ARGUMENT.

1. When will the American people finally realize that the Democrats are leading this country straight into socialism? (newspaper call-in column). FALLACY: LOADED QUESTION

2. See it or be un-American! (ad for The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle movie). FALLACY: FALSE ALTERNATIVES

3. In regard to Thursday's paper: To have a gay lead a Boy Scout troop. Isn't that like putting the fox in the henhouse? What a travesty of common sense. (newspaper call-in column). FALLACY: WEAK ANALOGY

4. Dudley said that whenever anything would go wrong at his last job, his boss would always say he was responsible. I guess Dudley must be a very responsible person. I'd better hire him. (adapted from Tom Morris, True Success) FALLACY; EQUIVOCATION

5. I don't believe in superstitions. They're bad luck. (New York Mets coach Bobby Valentine, quoted in George F. Will, "2002: Let's Keep Dancing," Newsweek) FALLACY: INCONSISTENCY

You want us to give responses "AT MINIMUM 5 SENTENCES (for each explanation) AND SHOULD DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE FALLACY ALONG WITH HOW IT APPLIES TO THAT PARTICULAR ARGUMENT."

That would be doing your homework for you. How 'bout you give us YOUR answers, and we will tell you if they need tweaking.
