When I was younger I had a credit card that I ran up about $1,000 worth of debt, and than money got tight and I defaulted on payments and the account got turned over to a collections agency. I have always had the intention to pay back the debt after I finish my degree and I was more financially secure. Well today I got served with a notice stateing that the collections agency is sueing me for the amount on the credit card plus attorney fee's. I am a college student... I don't have a whole lot of money. What are my options? Can I call the collections agency and set up a payment plan? Or do I have to go to court and most likely have my wages garnished? What are my other options? Thanks!

Most likely the attorney will allow you to make payments or settle for a fraction of the cost. People don't realize that when a collection agency turns to an atty, it is like they are sending it into collections.

DO NOT IGNORE the atty papers. Call them and discuss the options to settle with them.
