I was sentenced to 10 years of probation I have copmleted almost 7 years of the ten with no violations and all classes completed a long time ago. I will be done with community service soon and my PO says I am eligible for early termination> She said she will recommend it to the courts since she is really impressed how good I have done. Will I have to hire an attorney to complete the process or can my Po do it for me.. I also wanted to know after the requst is out in how long until I am actually off probation.. My case was out of dallas tx..

Hello j:

No, you don't need a lawyer. At this point, I'd see how well the PO is going to do. If she fails, you might want to hire a lawyer.

I don't know how long it takes. Some judges leave stuff on their desks for MONTHS.

Complete your community service as quickly as you can. Then approach your PO to make a recommendation to the Judge for your early termination. PO's if they like you and are nice can do wonders. But, it's all up to the Judge on this one. Don't be upset if the Judge denies your early termination but keep friendly relations with your PO. If your PO was the one who brought up the topic then they would know. It could take a few months for the Judge to release you if that's what he decides to do. Your PO sounds encouraging though and I wish you all the best of luck getting off early.
