Hi there! I apologize if my question is commonplace or obvious, I'm an appliance newb. =)

We have a two-story home with two thermostats, one outside A/C unit. Typically these get set to 78 degrees.

This morning upon waking, it was 81 -- very odd for it, but could hear the intake fans (vents? ) inside making air noises, assuming maybe it was just having a rough morning.

Just came home from work, and its 96 inside. The intake vents still are making sound, but the outside unit is doing nothing. No fan blades moving, no humming or buzzing, nothing.

Tripped the breaker to it because I was hopeful to no avail.

Our filter (interior) is fine, we replace it every month thanks to allergies.

I've read low freon issues but am not sure if that would accompany hearing buzzing from the unit itself? Is that something a homeowner replaces or shall I call in an expert?

Or does the no-noise-whatsoever mean we need a whole new unit/motor?

So unsure how to trouble shoot this, and would obviously love to go the least costly route -- but living in TX where its 96 inside and 104 outside, we need to act quick! Our puppies are melting! ;)

First thing to do would be to check the contactor and the capacitor in the outdoor unit
