Okay, to start, when I go to my movies I can see the Thumbnail of the Movie, when I execute the file only the audio plays and the video portion is a black screen. I have downloaded windows media player, WinAmp and Media Player Classic and all three do the same thing, I have the audio and no video.

When I go to Windows Movie Maker and import the video, once again I get the thumbnails and when I play the movie I get the same thing, audio but no video. I don't know where to go to get codecs as I am relatively new at this. Can someone please help?

I also downloaded XP Codec Pack 2.5.1 (Which gave me the Media Player Classic)

:confused:Please Help:confused:

As an update, when using Media Player Classic, you are allowed the use of a "snapshot" function, when used while playing the video I can get snapshots of the movie.

I have attached a picture of what the playback looks like

What file type is the movie?

Would seem to be a codec issue

Would suggest to uninstall the 2.5.1 codec pack you have

Installed and try a different codec pack
The Windows Vista Codec Package is compatible with Windows XP
Shark007.net - Windows Vista Codec Package (http://shark007.net/vistacodecpackage.html)

If all else fails VLC plays them all: VideoLAN - VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/)

Is it just one movie or all of them? Will it play other types of media formats without problem

VLC and Media player classic should not have a problem

just download VLC it reads everything (except really rare things but you probably don't have any ^^)

I downloaded VLC, I've downloaded everything everyone has given me and still I get a black screen, when I downloaded the movies on to a cd and took it to my wife's computer they played correctly. They are just MPG movies of our kids so they are nothing special.

It does that with everything, it won't run my music videos or my home videos of my kids.

See if this helps

Go tocontrol panel and open the Sound Icon
See if any messages come up

Very odd. You needed Quicktime to play an mpg that VLC wasn't able to play. Haven't seen that before.
