RCA remote to control Akai with built in DVD player?
I have an RCA universal remote control I could program it to control the TV but not the integrated dvd player.
Does anybody as some luck in a similar situation?

Here is an RCA for about $20, it has the ability to "Learn" Infrared signals from another remote. You can do different faces and Macros.

I like Xantech, they have a 6 relay IR Controller that is DPDT, Momentary, toggle, etc. they are handy, You could arm/disarm your vehicle turn on headlights for 30 seconds or whatever by using an IR Watch, a Xantech Dinky link, and the CC12 I believe is the model.
