I'm buying a home in southern WV which is gas heated and has electric a/c. The current owners pay $123 and $35 per month respectfully on the budget plan which seems way out of kilter to me. Notwithstanding the individual user differences and that the price of electricity here is way less expensive, I am considering converting the home to all electric heat and a/c. However, everything I have read here seems to indicate that replacing/upgrading windows and weather stripping, possibly replacing the furnace, or going with a heat pump may be more cost effective. What say you?

If you do consider changing to all electric heat, be sure to know the total amount of electric heat wattage, as usually the electric service will need to be upgraded to handle the added load.

How much they charge for gas/ electric in wv

I wish all my electric and gas was only a total of 158 dollars a month.

Just my electric is more than that on my lowest month. But you may want to keep a gas back up heat, esp if you are in mountains that have several days a year with no electric power due to storms.
