We are a New Jersey based staffing company. Our consultant/ employee who lives in New Jersey, is on a temporary assignement for our client in New York City. Is it required for him to pay New York City taxes?

It depends on HOW LONG he will be located in NYC and HOW MUCH he earns while in NYC.

Generally speaking, if the period in NYC is expected to exceed six weeks in time of $10,000 in salary, he will have to pay NY state taxes (for which he can claim a credit against his NJ tax liability) on the income earned while located in NYC.

No NY CITY income tax will be due because he does not LIVE in NYC.
