Hello,

I have getting this statement from my dentist every 3 months for the work done 12 years ago in Boston. At that time, I had an dental insurance and was under the impression that I would be covered and no need for out of pocket cost.

That time, my portion was about $100.00. I did not pay that time and afetr one month, I was out of country for about 5 years and thought that it would go away. But for that mistake, I have been getting the statement from him till now and now the statement shows, I owe him about $4,800 with interest and penalties.

I called him a year ago and was told that someone would call me back but never did. I am surprised that why he did not send this to collection agency and why never calls me and just send me the bill lake this.

Please help, how should I resolve this situation??

Thanks

Hello:

If ALL he does is send you a bill, either pay it, or ignore it. What else IS there to do?

First did insurance pay, merely "having" insurance does not mean it paid the way you believe it did.

Next you felt you could merely not pay someone for a service they provided you. What if several people owed you 100 dollars each and no one wanted to pay you, how would that make you feel ?

They are not obligated to turn it over to collections, they can merely try to collect it themselves. It is now past the limit to sue you but they may keep billing you and asking for their money for the rest of your life. And even file a claim with your estate when you die.

Since you owed them an amount ( you are not sure 100 dollars till you find what insurance paid) you make them a fair offer if it was 100 dollars maybe 200 dollars would be fair now.
