My sister has a teacup poodle. She is 5 years old. She started getting sick last Saturday. When the vet did an x-ray on Tuesday, a foreign object came up. My sister believes she found pieces of a metal ring that she may have swallowed. The doctor believes she may still pass the object and doesn't want to do surgery. The vet says he believes it's dissolving and to hold off on the surgery. She takes the dog home at night and leaves her (at the very busy vet office) on IVs during the day. The dog is not eating much but seems to be drinking some. She pees some but no bowel movement. Last night the dog vomited green stuff and appeared so dehydrated and listless that my sister thought she was dying. She is at the vet again today on IVs and they say she is resting. No talk of surgery. Is surgery on a teacup too risky and the fact that she is dehydrated too risky? Should they be waiting? My sister is concerned that she may slip off and die quietly without notice at their busy office.

I think I would be going to another vet for a second opinion.

Have they done more x-rays? If she isn't eating, how does the vet expect her to pass the object? I would be concerned about a 'metal' object 'dissolving' in the dog.

Something seems very off and it isn't just a concern about putting a toy breed under anesthesia.

My cousins dog weighs 2.5 pounds, he is full grown. He was spayed, which is a surgery, and did just fine. Take the dog somewhere else! Like cat said.. how does metal disolve in a dog??
