My toilet is raised about six inches off the floor on a square pedestal and I would like to remove the pedestal and make the toilet flush with the floor. We live in an older mobile home and have recently been told by a plumber that this isn't possible without spending quite a bit of money - which we don't have. Any suggestions

There is a (good) reason why this toilet is raised. First, investigate why it is so. Since this is a mobile home, there may be an "I" beam right under neath disallowing pipe to be dropped lower.

Investigate and come back and let us know what you've found out. We will tell you than what to do... Back to you... Milo

The reason most fixtures are platformed and installed on a pedestal is because the underfloor drainage can not be lowered enough to mount them on the floor. Milo is correct. It's up there for a reason. Did your plumber give you a reason?
