I'm not really sure if this needs to be in the automotive or legal section, but here is my question.
As I've mentioned before I bought my car from a friend who was buying it from the finance company. Well, I still haven't received the title, she said it was because it was just released from Federal Custody...
She just keeps telling me that it's a long story. What does this mean? What could she mean by "released from federal custody"?

Hello momma:
Sounds like the car was seized by the feds and auctioned off. I don't know why the title wouldn't have come with it, though. Why don't you ask her for the name of the bank and call them.

I have the car... I bought it... I'm waiting for the title.

No, you have a car and someone has your money, you don't buy it, till you have a signed title. If they did not legally have the right to the car, the real owner ( with the title) can merely come and take it at any time.
And you can not legally license and register it normally without that title, so a car sitting in your yard that you can't drive does you little good.
I would want to know what agency has it ?
Was it taken in a drug raid, was it taken during a bankruptcy or how did the feds get it?
How did they get the car from the feds, was it a auction ?
Did the finance company go bankrupt ? Did they have IRS tax issues and the company property taken by IRS

Ohhh... That makes more sense.
I bought the car from her while she was buying it from the finance company.
The car is still registered in her name. I am driving it. I've been pulled over once and not had an issue.
And yes, the finance company went bankrupt... or corrupt... LOL! It was Metro Auto Wholesale, if that makes a difference.

It's been FOUR months since I have made my last payment on this car. I STILL do not have the title. And now the friend that "sold" it to me isn't answering my phone calls or texts. What should I do??

She the friend for the money.
The issue is that if she has not paid the lender for the car, they can repo the car, since she still owns it legally as long as they hold the title.
But this could be tied up for years

They turn the car off before the repo it (which they have done 4 times). So I know when she doesn't make her payments. They haven't turned it off recently. She has said that she's just waiting on the title. Which she said a few months ago. And the GPS was turned off after that, so I know she was lying. I don't know what to do. How do I even go about suing someone? What does that cost? I'm jobless, so I have ZERO money at the moment.
