On my 2001 Camry I have replaced catylitic converter at cost of 754.00. Live in Mass, so need to pass emissions test. Flunked after converter ready to test on P0440 and PO441 and PO446. Have read that there was a TSB out about the canister disintegrating and plugging everything. My mechanic wants to replace charcoal canister and the purge valve. Would this correct the emission problem?

Many of these type of problems come about from pumping more gas into the tank, after the nozzle initially cuts out. It cost my dad $450 to replace the EVAP Control System on his Toyota last year--he learned this lesson about pumping in too much gas the hard way. The EVAP Control System can only handle gasoline fumes, not liquid gasoline.

Crumbx, I trust what your mechanic is telling you. It is very common here in NC also because of emissions.
The canister and CCV (purge valve) will get you going again.
I have no doubt where you live the canister is full of rust also.
That's a blessing down here.
