I'm hearing differing opinions. I purchased granite tiles from home depot and had them to install them. First, the grout are a cloudy whit instead of the black they are supposed to be. Is this because the tile installation and the grouting took place within hours of one another? Secondly, the contractor wants to remove the grout but most installers are telling me it is almost impossible to do without damaging the bevelled portion of the tile.

So, you hired the orange place to install tiles for you? Add yourself to the long list of disappointed customers.

It's possible to remove the grout without damaging tiles, but if they were set close together, (as they should be), expect some damage. Did he say how he was going to remove it?

The Custom Building Products grout they carry is know to fail as you described. I also wonder if the area was prepped correctly, especially if the substrate is wood and not a concrete slab. Which is it?

Concrete and the grout line is a 1/8"grout line. Additionally some tiles are not level with the others. They sent their expert to the house who said it was a bad job by the initial installer. He reported the same to the company the installer works for. Initially she agreed, then two days later she began to throttle back when she considered the cost to remove and install the tile again,

HD does nothing except take a cut off the contractors price. Even if you get the old grout out, you are still faced with uneven tiles. Make them fix it or file with the BBB.
