Hi,
This is the question I received. I would appreciate any and all help.

"If I buy wireless piece to put in my lab-top can I get a modem and run other computers off of it?"

Basically she has a lap top and 2 desk tops and wanted to know what she can do to get internet on all 3 computers.

Thank you!

What do you have for internet (DSL, Cable, FIOS) now?

Adding wireless to a wired system is difficult, but not impossible. If your internet came with a wireless router, then some of the hard part is done.

There are 3 basic standards: 802.11 b/g and n. Usually, if it supports n, it will support b and g. g is common for Hotspots.

The Laptop probably came with wireless.

You can get adapter for desktops in the form of a card and USB.

Yes, all the computers can share the connection.

Biggest difference with b and g is speed. 10 vs 54 mbps. With n it's both range and speed (~104 bps). Streaming videos in the house is a reason to go wireless n, otherwise your limited to the internet speed.

Wireless printers usually support b and/or g.
