How do I unscrew a cross threaded screw from a Home Lite weed eater?

It does not matter what it is in, the steps are the same. Is it a phillips headed screw? If so get a perfectly matched new phillips driver tip and try using a compact drill driver or hammer drill.

If the head is to chewed up, use a screw extractor, or "easy-out", on it after drilling into the head. They sell different sizes. Start with a smaller one.
