Is it safe to use polyurethane foam and an elastomeric latex coating only as hot tub cover? I made this cover and it works great, Im just afraid of contimenation from the checmicals, dichloride and the hot water that it covers for hours at a time until I use it? I tried covering it with fabric, but the sun dried it out and it weathered and mildewed quickly. I live in the South Florida. Should I have it covered with a vinyl like most are sold in Spa Stores?

Could there be a skin, cancer, biohazard waiting to happen? Thanks for you expert advice... Sincerely, Paul Donahue

From wikipedia, until you reach 240 C, you're safe:

Polyurethane - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyurethane#Health_and_safety)

Vulcanised rubber does not decompose that readily either.

Also, the concentration of chlorine in water is not enough to reach with any of the two.

So, I don't think that there are any hazards associated with the cover you made. To be sure, you can try asking your question in the plumbing area (https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/plumbing/).
