I have heard a little about epoxy grout and that you never need to replace it. Why then, isn't this used instead of regular grout? I have a lot of tilework in my house that is room by room being replaced and I am wondering why I would want to use regular grout ever again when it seems that epoxy grout will never come out and never need resealing.

Hi Mybosworth...

As with most things nowadays, the real issue comes down to cost! Epoxy grout is maybe 10 times the cost of regular grout, it is harder to work with and also harder to clean up after.

I never use the stuff on vertical walls... just so darn hard to work on the walls. But in places where you will see a lot of water, such as on a custon tiled shower floor or say on kitchen countertops this stuff is fantastic and worth the extra money and labor to install.

That being said, as with anything, if the prep. Work for the tile is poorly done I don't care if you use epoxy grout... it will eventually need to be replaced just like any grout!

Finally, don't totally dismiss regular grout either.. it has its place as well. When I do a shower and I've installed everything correctly I'll use regular grout and never have any issues with it... even 10-15 years later.

Hope that helped...

Mark
