Im seriously thinking of going from hemo to pd. Has anyone done this? Is the quality of life better? Does it make you fat? AND do you have to carry fluid around in your body all the time? Does it interfere with swimming and last question... can you really drink fluids again like a normal person? Any one who can answer ANY of these questions I would appreciate it very much. Thank you

Peritoneal dialysis has its upside and downside, sumbud. You won't have to go to a medical facility for dialysis, what 3 times a week; you have the advantage of dialysis at home, expense is similar though. The major downside is the risks of infection because you must have a stoma for insertion of the equipment into your abdomen. It gives you more mobility; I don't know about the swimming because that would bring you right back to risk of infection because of the stoma. Fluid intake would be just about the same as the other.

Here is a website that may help you make the decision for PD. I think just about everything is covered here:

www.aakp.org/aakp-library/managing-fluid-intake

I hope this helps. You have a lot of thinking to do.
