I am new to the site and am hoping someone can help me out...

My A/C has worked fine in my home until earlier today when I noticed it was getting hotter and hotter inside and had no air blowing through the vents. I lloked at the t-stat and it was registering that the A/C was on, I could hear and see the big fan on the unit running and heard a distinctive "hum" from within the unit. I removed the cover that led to the blower motor and spun it with my hand and it spun freely and for a long time.

The house has the old screw type fuses protecting the unit and I have blow the last 4 I have in the house trying to figure out what was wrong with it, now I am all out and can not afford to have a tech come out and fix it.

Please help! Is it the capacitor? I have no clue, I work on cars not residential HVAC units!

Is this a gas? Or electric furnace?

If its gas the button has to be pushed in while spinning the fan blades//the button that the door usually is holding in

M4car, are you saying that the AC is blowing fuses? Does this happen when you turn the unit on or does it blow as soon as you put in the fuse?
