My son requested to have his probation switched to another state and nys granted it. He was given 3 years probation, He went 18 months and left the state and did not report back to the original state. There is a warrant out for my son.. What will happen to him now

What will happen? Well for starters if he is stopped by the cops for any reason and his name is run in the computer he will be taken to jail for the outstanding warrant. If he goes to the DMV to have his license renewed or get a license he will have his name ran in the computer and then he will be arrested on the spot for the outstanding warrant. The folks down at the DMV take their time to make sure they check out everyone before giving them a new license or a renewal. Happens all the time at the DMV. The cops come very quickly to those calls.

The state where he is arrested in will contact the other state and have them decide whether they want to come and get him or not. This could take several weeks while your son stays put in jail awaiting word from the other state.

Why not hire an attorney to help him turn himself in and face his violation of probation hearing? He could get more probation or he could get whatever time in jail that the Judge gave him when he was sentenced originally. You need to go back and read the original sentencing paperwork to see just what is in store for your son once he gets back in front of his original sentencing Judge.
